Y Combinator cofounder Paul Graham said there's one word in an email that hints it was written by AI. AdvertisementThe word "delve" has been getting a lot of attention online over the last few days. That's because Y Combinator founder Paul Graham said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that using the word "delve" in an email pitch is a sign ChatGPT wrote it. The chart shows instances of "delve" used in articles like peer-reviewed journal papers and preprints from 1990 to 2024. The dearth of dealmaking shows that, despite a rebound in tech stocks last year and continuing hype around generative AI, venture capitalists are still largely on the sidelines. The Federal Reserve has indicated that cuts to its benchmark interest rate are likely coming in 2024, but for the moment they remain steady. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said Wednesday it will take a while for policymakers to evaluate the current state of inflation, keeping the timing of potential interest rate cuts uncertain. There were 2,882 venture deals in the first quarter, the lowest since the third quarter of 2017, according to PitchBook. According to PitchBook, Reddit and Astera made up 73.4% of the total exit value in the U.S. in the first quarter.

Under cathedral ceilings and soaring stained glass windows, Garry Tan clutched a microphone as he greeted a crowd of political centrists, including San Francisco’s mayor, local prosecutors and police brass. “Welcome to the church of turning San Francisco around!” said Mr. Tan at a fund-raiser he was hosting for local Asian American female political candidates just days before the Super Tuesday elections this month. For a man evangelizing for change in San Francisco, owning a condo that used to be part of a church comes in handy. Last year, he scooped up the $3.95 million space near the city’s palm-tree-studded Dolores Park to hold events like this one — events he hopes will shift San Francisco from its idealistic progressivism toward nuts-and-bolts centrism. Mr. Tan’s day job is chief executive of Y Combinator, the accelerator for tech start-ups that has helped create household names including Airbnb, DoorDash, Dropbox, Instacart and Reddit.

If Sam Altman is to achieve his dream of artificial general intelligence in his lifetime, that number will need to double or triple every year for the foreseeable future. These wide-ranging plans for global transformation go far beyond Altman's role as the CEO of generative AI behemoth OpenAI, developer of ChatGPT. EnergyThe first pillar of Altman's grand unified theory of the future rests on energy. Headlining the event was company chairman and investor Sam Altman, who appeared via video call projected on a towered cineplex. And Altman's AGI empire extends beyond just the energy and raw material required to build AGI.

1 habit I see in my most resilient clients is the ability to shift their stress response from "fight-or-flight" to "tend-and-befriend." But social scientists have uncovered a different and equally important stress response called " tend-and-befriend ," which focuses on caring for others and reaching out to strengthen social connections. This response was extremely helpful when threats were physical, but it is far less so when threats are cognitive or social. We all know about fight-or-flight — the stress response that can occur when we encounter a perceived threat, like a 15-minute calendar invite from your boss titled "Performance." Hug, cuddle, or self-sootheEngaging in positive touch through hugs and cuddles with loved ones or even furry friends can dramatically reduce the distress of a negative situation.

The Juggernaut spokesperson told BI that "multiple employees have equity in the company," but BI was unable to identify any such employees. "Twenty years ago, you might've struggled to mention a South Asian actor that you've seen in a movie," he said. As of January, the site had about 10,500 subscribers, Sur told investors in an email viewed by BI. Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan speaks during the New York Times annual DealBook Summit in New York City on Nov. 29, 2023. Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan cited the surging stock prices of Nvidia and Arm as an example of how blocking mergers can lead to increased innovation. The evidence, Khan said, is in the company stock prices. Nvidia's value has nearly tripled mostly on the strength of sales of its AI chips for servers such as the A100 and H100. Arm stock has more than doubled since the company went public in August 2023, although SoftBank still owns 90% of the company's shares.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will be in a position to make millions after Reddit goes public, thanks to a series of bets on the online discussion board company that go back to 2014. Altman will hold 9.2% of voting power after Reddit's initial public offering, according to information in the company's prospectus. Silicon Valley CEOs are doing battle in public. AdvertisementThe Silicon Valley elite have been at each other's throats a little more than usual lately. AdvertisementThe latest example of this came this week when Mark Zuckerberg derided Apple's Vision Pro headset in an Instagram video. The Vision Pro is a direct competitor to Meta's Quest Pro but Zuckerberg does not appear concerned for now. “If you go back to the PC era, Microsoft’s open model was the winner, and in this next generation Meta is going to be the open model, and I really want to make sure that the open model wins out again.”Zuckerberg has good reason to be on the offense.
